The hilly states of North India have been recording on and off showers since February. In fact, during the last 24 hours, these states have witnessed widespread moderate to heavy rain and snowfall. In span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Tuesday, Manali recorded a whopping of 48 mm of rainfall, followed by Banihal 24.2 mm, Gulmarg 24 mm, Kullu 21mm, Kukernag 17 mm, Kupwara 16.5 mm, Keylong 14 mm, Mussorie 10 mm and Tehri 11.2 mm.
The reason for these rain and snow show can be attributed to the fresh Western Disturbance that is over North Pakistan and adjoining Jammu and Kashmir areas.
As per Skymet Weather, this system will continue to give rain and snow for the next couple of days as well. Thereafter, another fresh Western Disturbance will approach the Western Himalayas that will again increase the intensity of rain and snow over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
With these rain and snow, both maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to remain below normal.
The northern hills have witnessed good bouts of rain and snow during the months of January and February. All thanks to back to back Western Disturbances affecting the Western Himalayas.
