Kolkata has been receiving pre-Monsoon showers for quite a long time now. So much so that the city has already witnessed a few good spells of Pre-Monsoon showers during the Month of May. In fact, with the presence of Cyclone Mora, weather conditions had become favorable for more Pre-Monsoon showers over the City of Joy.
Now, the Monsoon line has already touched the borderline of West Bengal. However, the Monsoon is likely to advance further and cover the area of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal within the next few days.
As per Skymet Weathermen, a trough line is extending from foothills of Himalayas up to Arunachal Pradesh across North Bihar and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal.

Due to this, moderate to heavy spells of rainfall are expected to occur over these regions. In the last 24 hours, many parts of Gangetic West Bengal have been receiving pre- Monsoon rain and thundershower activities and may continue to witness during the next 24 hours.
During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Shanti Niketan recorded 41 mm of rainfall and Burdwan 23 mm.
Meanwhile, Kolkata may continue to receive more good pre-Monsoon rain and thundershower activities; thereafter the on and off showers will take a backseat and the city may experience hot and humid weather conditions in the next two to three days.
However, between June 7 and 8, Southwest Monsoon is expected to announce its onset over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Kolkata.
