More pre-Monsoon rains to drench Kolkata, West Bengal

The last 24 hours brought rain for West Bengal. Most districts of the state were lashed by light to moderate rains that made the weather conditions across the state pleasant. In fact, the state capital has been witnessing on and off showers since the beginning of the month.

Though rains took a break during mid-May but occasional showers with a gap of a day has been observed by Kolkata in the month of May. In the last 24 hours also, rains showed up in parts of West Bengal. Within a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Wednesday, Bahrampur witnessed 22.2 mm of rains, Malda 20.8 mm, Darjeeling 9.5 mm, and Sri Niketan witnessed 9 mm of rainy spells. Moreover, Kolkata also observed some rainy traces during the similar time frame.

In fact, rain and thundershowers associated with squall and hail storm at some parts over Bankura, Barddhaman, East Midnapore, Haora, Hugli, Kolkata, North 24 Parganas, Purulia, South 24 Parganas and West Midnapore districts of the state in some time.

 

The reason for these showers as per Skymet Weather can be associated with a trough that is passing from Bihar to Gangetic West Bengal. Moreover, as this system is likely to persist, it is expected to give some more showers.

Hence, scattered light to moderate rains is expected to continue over West Bengal including over Kolkata for the next 24 hours. With these rains, the maximums that had been settling above the 35-degree mark is further expected to curtail down marginally.
