A fresh Western Disturbance has approached Jammu and Kashmir, that has been lashing isolated light rains over the northern districts of Punjab since the last 24 hours. According to the data available with Skymet, traces of rains have been recorded over the Golden city- Amritsar, during the last 24 hours.

Now, due to the persistence of this weather system, the intensity of rains will increase and we expect scattered rains over northern districts of Punjab as well as Haryana during the coming days.

Places such as Amritsar, Bathinda, Faridkot, Firozpur, Fatehgarh Sahib, Kapurthala, Gurdaspur, Ambala, Kaithal, Kurukshetra and Panchkula will witness rains. However, the weather of remaining districts of both the states will remain dry.

Moreover in wake of the above weather system, winds have become south easterly. Thus, a marginal rise in minimum temperature is expected. However, maximums here will decrease by 1℃ to 2℃.

According to the weathermen at Skymet, the scattered rains over Punjab and Haryana will continue until tomorrow, while weather will go dry once again on May 2.

However on May 3, a Trough will form, extending from Punjab up to West Uttar Pradesh, which will once again lead to the commencement of rains over both the states, but this time with increased intensity and spread, wherein not only the northern districts, but several others will receive light to moderate rains.

Residents of Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Yamunanagar, Karnal and Kurukshetra will get the touch of these rains. Some isolated rains may also occur over the southern districts of these states on May 3 and 4.

Gradually, the spread of rains will extend up to many parts of the northern plains including Uttar Pradesh. During this period, back to back Western disturbances will also make an appearance.

On May 5, due to the weakening of Trough, weather will start clearing up and become completely dry on May 6. Moreover, south easterly winds will get replaced by hot and dry northwesterly winds and maximums will start rising once again.
