Amid last 24 hours, light to moderate showers occurred over many parts of North Odisha, while in the same time frame most regions of West Bengal saw good rain and thundershowers.

All thanks to the cyclonic circulation over the northern parts of Odisha and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal.

In course of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Sunday, Baharampur recorded very heavy rains of 83 mm, followed by Asansol 67 mm, Paradip 23 mm, Bhawanipatna 20 mm, Bankura 18 mm, Midnapore 18 mm, Kolkata 13 mm, Sriniketan 12 mm, Darjeeling 10 mm, Cooch Behar 10 mm, Jalpaiguri 6 mm, Bhubaneswar 4 mm, Cuttack 3 mm and Titlagarh 2 mm.

This is not all, conditions still remain favorable for more rainy spells. Weathermen at Skymet Weather anticipate moderate rains along with one or two heavy spells to continue over North Odisha and many parts of West Bengal for at least the next one week. Herein, cities like Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Balasore, Midanpore, Bankura and Purulia may get to see the rainy spells.

These showers would be on account of the cyclonic circulation and eastern end of axis of Monsoon trough which is sinking in the Bay of Bengal and passing through Gangetic West Bengal.

Monsoon is most likely to start withdrawing from Northwest India by the end of this week. Even then, formation of successive weather systems in the North Bay of Bengal would not let the weather conditions go absolutely dry in both Odisha and West Bengal during the next coming days.

As on September 2, the state of Odisha saw normal rainfall to the tune of 12% whereas West Bengal has seen deficient rains of -20%.
