More Monsoon rains in the offing for Kolkata

After the onset of Monsoon over Kolkata, the city has been receiving on and off rains. In fact, during the past three days, Dum Dum observatory has recorded over 20 mm of rain. Light rain has also been observed over the Alipore observatory during this time. During the last 24 hours, patchy rains have been observed over Kolkata.

The cyclonic circulation which developed in the Bay of Bengal is currently over Vidarbha and adjoining areas. A trough is extending from North Rajasthan to West Bengal across the Indo-Gangetic Plains. The combined effect of these systems have resulted in rain over Kolkata and its adjoining areas.

A short rainy spell was witnessed during the first half of today as well. At around 11:00 am, light rain was observed over South and Central Kolkata for 10 to 20 minutes. Furthermore, on and off light rain is expected to continue over the City of Joy.

After the onset of Monsoon, under the influence of the cyclonic circulation, Monsoon air mass still continues to cause rains over the eastern parts of the country including Kolkata. In the coming days, along with a few spells of rain, temperatures will also remain close to normal levels and the city will witness comfortable weather conditions.
