Monsoon rain in Madhya Pradesh

The weather systems developing in the Bay of Bengal are the main cause of rains over most parts of Central India. These weather systems travel in a westerly direction through Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha. While their westerly transit, they deliver good rains over these states.

Apart from this, the axis of the Monsoon trough also plays a significant role in producing rains over these regions. This trough when shifts south of its normal position, it passes through Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, leading to increased rain activities over the two which was the situation until now.

Presently, the axis of Monsoon trough is crossing North Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. An upper air trough is also extending over the central region. In the wake of this, during the last 24 hours, widespread moderate rains with isolated heavy spells were recorded over Chhattisgarh and parts of East Madhya Pradesh.

Parts of West Madhya Pradesh have also received scattered light rains at many places with moderate at a few. In fact, Chhattisgarh was lashed with some moderate to extremely heavy rains in isolated pockets.

In the last 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Friday, Ambikapur recorded a whopping 116 m of rains, Ujjain 28 mm, Guna 22 mm, Pachmarhi 21 mm, Tikamgarh 17 mm, Indore 16 mm, Khandwa 14 mm, Bilaspur 14 mm, Umaria 12 mm, Sagar 11 mm, Pendra 10 mm and Raipur witnessed 4 mm of light rains.

The day temperatures also remained below normal due to thick clouding and these rains. However, now, the weather system has weakened and into a low-pressure area and the cyclonic circulation has faded away. Moreover, now the trough can also be seen moving in a northerly direction. In fact, the western arm of the axis of Monsoon trough has already moved north.

Hence, now, as per Skymet Weather, the rainfall activity is likely to reduce over South and West Madhya Pradesh. However, East Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh would continue to get good rains for the next 24 hours, reducing thereafter.

The regions most likely to get affected by these rains include Pendra, Bilaspur, Surajpur, Koriya, Rewa, Satna, Panna, Sidhi, Umaria, and Jabalpur. Bhopal may also get light spells meanwhile, rains may be a chance over Indore.
