Now, the low-pressure area is persisting over the central parts of Uttar Pradesh and from this weather system extends the axis of Monsoon trough up to Gangetic West Bengal through Bihar. The other branch of the same trough expands up to Assam across Sub-Himalayan West Bengal.
Therefore, we expect many parts of West Bengal to witness light to moderate rain and thundershowers with few heavy spells, particularly the northern districts such as Cooch Behar, Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri. Whereas, moderate rain is expected over Bardhhaman, Kolkata and Midnapore.
Furthermore, a cyclonic circulation is persisting over Northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha and West Bengal coasts in mid-levels. And so, we expect moderate to heavy rains to continue over the North Coastal Odisha for another 24 hours. Places like Baripada, Balasore, and nearby districts would see good rains; however, rain will be light over southern parts of Odisha.
After 24 hours, rains are expected to reduce over Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha, but then good showers would continue over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal for at least the next three to four days.
As on July 31, the state of Odisha is rain surplus by 7%, whereas West Bengal remains rain deficit by 17%.
