The weather in Karnataka has been almost dry for last many days. Although heavy to very heavy rains were witnessed by Coastal Karnataka during the third week of August leading to flooding of many districts, but interior districts witnessed only scattered light rains.
Now, we see a trough forming over South Interior Karnataka extending towards South Tamil Nadu. Therefore, we expect the rains to increase over southern districts of Karnataka including Bengaluru. This trough is expected to persist for two more days.
While Bengaluru and nearby districts may receive few spells, isolated pockets may receive heavy rain as well. Rains would once again reduce by September 13 and gradually weather will become dry.
Weather of Bengaluru is already pleasant. These rains will further drop the temperatures leading to pleasant days and nights.
If we look at the cumulative rainfall figures, South Interior Karnataka, as well as Coastal Karnataka are rain-surplus by 7% and 4%, respectively as on September 9. However, North Interior Karnataka is rain deficient by 25%. The rain episode is expected to further increase the rain surplus over South Interior Karnataka.
