More Monsoon rains for West Coast

June 28, 2018 3:54 PM |

Southern West Coast to get good Monsoon rains

The Western Coastal region of the country is one of the rainiest pockets during Southwest Monsoon as it contributes a major chunk of Monsoonal rains. However, the intensity of rains keeps on varying with the activation or deactivation of the offshore trough.

On the last day also, rains along the West Coast ranged from moderate to heavy with isolated stations receiving extremely heavy, three-digit rains as well.

The same happened on the past day as well when most of the coastal stations recorded Monsoon rains. However, the intensity of these rains varied from being light to getting heavier and extremely heavy in a few pockets.

In the last 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Wednesday, Cannur recorded three-digit rains to the tune of 122 mm, followed by Kozhikode with 105 mm of rains, Mangaluru 67.2 mm, Honavar 57 mm, Karipur 51 mm, Kochi 42 mm, Ratnagiri 35 mm, Alibag 12 mm, Dahanu 11 mm, Alappuzha 10 mm, and Thiruvananthapuram witnessed 8 mm of rains.

As per Skymet Weather, the reason for these heavy to extremely heavy showers along the West Coast can be related with the offshore trough running along the coastline from South Gujarat to Coastal Kerala.

As of now also, Skymet Weather predicts moderate to heavy with isolated very heavy rains to continue along the West Coast for another 24-36 hours, mainly over South Konkan, Coastal Karnataka, and Coastal Kerala region. However, rains over North Konkan would witness a slight reduction.
