However, during the last 48 hours, many districts of Gangetic West Bengal has received heavy to extremely heavy rains. These rains can be attributed to a trough that is extending from the northern plains up to Northwest Bay of Bengal across Gangetic West Bengal.

In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Tuesday, Daltonganj recorded 49 mm of rainfall, followed by Chaibasa 46.5 mm, Midnapore 33 mm, Digha 22mm; while Ranchi, Jalpaiguri and Kolkata observed 10 mm of rains.

There were other districts that witnessed light showers such as Burdwan 9 mm, Jamshedpur 8 mm, Bankura 7 mm, Diamond Harbour 6 mm, Sriniketan 5 mm and Asansol 4 mm.

Skymet Weather expects this trough to persist and thus, good rains will continue over eastern and central parts of Jharkhand and northern districts of West Bengal. Kolkata and the remaining districts of Gangetic West Bengal could see scattered rains for now, but these rains will not be very heavy in intensity.
