In span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Monday, Alibag recorded whopping 173 mm of rainfall, followed by Bhira 169 mm, Mumbai 163 mm, Harnai 150 mm, Thane 136 mm, Nagpur 135 mm, Ratnagiri 131 mm and Dahanu 127 mm.

Meanwhile, Satara received 23 mm, Pune 20 mm, Kolhapur 17 mm, Matheran 15 mm and Wardha 15 mm, and Jalgaon 10 mm.

These very heavy rains over Vidarbha region can be attributed to the depression over Odisha and Andhra Pradesh Coast. Moreover, a cyclonic circulation is persisting over Kutch and adjoining South Rajasthan. Also, the off-shore trough is extending along the West Coast.

So, under the influence of these weather systems, the rainfall activity has enhanced significantly over the state of Maharashtra.

As per weathermen at Skymet, moderate to heavy rains may continue to batter many parts of Vidarbha and few places in Marathwada during the next 24 hours. Thereafter, rains are likely to start reducing gradually.

However, scattered showers will continue over Vidarbha and Marathwada, while along the West Coast, particularly North Konkan including Mumbai will continue to record moderate to heavy showers for the next 2 to 3 days.

Places in Madhya Maharashtra such as Pune and Nashik will settle with light rains.
