Good Monsoon rains continue to lash several parts of West Bengal along with state capital of Kolkata for several days now. In the past 24 hours from 8.30 am on Wednesday, the entire state was splashed by heavy rains wherein Kolkata witnessed 55 mm of rainfall, Diamond Harbour 55.2 mm, Digha 41 mm, Haldia 72 mm, Purulia 65 mm, Asansol 30.4 mm, Burdwan 32. 3 mm.

Even districts like Bahrampur, Basirha, Bankura, and Malda also received light to moderate rainfall. As per Skymet Weather, these hefty rains can be attributed to the axis of Monsoon trough which is extending from Jaisalmer, Guna, center of Low Pressure area over East Madhya Pradesh, Pendra, Jharsugda and east center Bay of Bengal.

Due to the oscillation of the trough towards North, the Gangetic belt of West Bengal has started receiving widespread moderate to heavy rainfall over the area. The active trough is likely to persist over the region and hence, moderate with one or two heavy spells are likely to continue over the state for the next 48 hours.
Moreover, a cyclonic circulation is also likely to form over Gangetic West Bengal during the next 24 hours, which will further enhance the rains. Kolkata is likely to record moderate to heavy rains and thundershowers for the next two days.
Mainly cloudy to overcast sky will prevail over the region and weather will remain pleasant across the state. As of now the city of joy Kolkata is rain surplus by 12% and West Bengal, on the whole, is rain deficit by 20%. Due to the continuous Monsoon rain, the rain deficit of West Bengal is likely to reduce and Kolkata will become more rain surplus.
