Northeast India has been witnessing good rains for the past few days. So much so that a few areas have been witnessing heavy showers. These rains have been widespread in nature and almost all the areas in the northeastern states have been observing rains of varied intensity.
During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, Cherrapunji recorded a whopping 119 mm of rain followed by 76 mm of rainfall in North Lakhimpur. Other areas to have received good rains include Shillong 39 mm, Dhubri 33 mm, Baghdogra 35 mm, Majbat 28 mm, Guwahati 37 mm, and Jorhat 25 mm.
These showers can be attributed to the upper air cyclonic circulation which is over Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of West Bengal as well as Odisha. Also, a trough has been extending from this system northward up to Sub-Himalayan West Bengal which has further increased the rainfall activity over entire Northeast India.
Now, during the next 24 to 48 hours, many parts of Northeast India including Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura will witness moderate to heavy rains. Many parts of Assam and Meghalaya may receive isolated very heavy rains as well. Thus, all the areas of the northeastern region will enjoy a few rainy days in the offing.
