Monsoon rains continued to lash several parts of Madhya Pradesh on Thursday. All thanks to depression over eastern parts of the country.

According to Skymet Weather, the depression is presently marked over Northwest Odisha and adjoining areas. It has already given heavy to very heavy rains over East Madhya Pradesh, while scattered light to moderate rains were observed over West Madhya Pradesh.

In span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, Umaria recorded 81 mm of rains, followed by Satna at 68 mm, Pachmarhi 65 mm, Khajuraho 49.4 mm, Sagar 27.8 mm, Rewa 27 mm, Betul 24 mm, Seoni 8.2 mm, Mandla 9 mm, Jabalpur 8 mm, Bhopal 7 mm, Guna 7.6 mm, and Indore 2.4 mm.

Now, this depression is likely to move further westwards and weaken gradually. By September 8, we expect this weather system to be over North Madhya Pradesh as a low pressure area. Therefore, moderate to heavy rains are likely to continue over Northeast Madhya Pradesh. Thereafter, rain belt would cover northern districts of the states.

Places like Agar Malwa, Alirajpur, Anuppur, Ashoknagar, Balaghat, Barwani, Betul, Bhind, Bhopal, Burhanpur, Chhatarpur, Chhindwara, Damoh, Datia, Dewas, Dhar, Dindori, Guna, Gwalior, Harda, Hoshangabad, Indore, Jabalpur, Jhabua, Katni, Khandwa (East Nimar), Khargone (West Nimar), Mandla, Mandsaur, Morena, Narsimhapur, Neemuch, Panna, Raisen, Rajgarh, Ratlam, Rewa, Sagar, Satna, Sehore, Seoni, Shahdol, Shajapur, Sheopur, Shivpuri, Sidhi, Singrauli, Tikamgarh, Ujjain, Umaria and Vidisha districts are all expected to record rains and thundershowers of varying intensity during the next 24 hours. By September 9, this weather system is most likely to become less marked. In wake of this, rain intensity will reduce significantly over eastern and southern parts of the state. However, northern and northwest districts would continue with light to moderate rains and thundershowers.

According to weathermen, significant clearance is expected to come by next week. The temperatures which have settling on the lower side on account of these ongoing rains would once again start increasing.

Monsoon has been performing exceptionally well in Madhya Pradesh since last two months, particularly in August. September has too started on rainy note. All credit goes to back to back weather systems forming in Bay of Bengal and travelling all though the state.
