More heavy rains for Pune, Mumbai, Jalgaon, Nashik, Akola

Southwest Monsoon has remained productive for the state of Maharashtra that has been recording some good spells almost throughout the month of August. Though the intensity of rains across the state varied, rains have been occurring almost daily. The last 24 hours were also rainy for the state when most parts of the state recorded light to moderate rains. Though the rain intensity over Vidarbha, Konkan, including Mumbai and North Madhya Maharashtra was more in contrast with those in Marathwada region that managed to witness some light to moderate showers.

Within the span of the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Friday, Mumbai recorded heavy rains of 90 mm, Nagpur 64 mm, Buldhana 38 mm, Ratnagiri 31 mm, Udgir 31 mm, Vengurla 29 mm, Nashik 28 mm, Parbhani 27 mm, and Jalgaon recorded 19 mm of rains. As the trough is anticipated to remain active along the western coastal belt of the country, vigorous Monsoon activity is likely to continue along the North Konkan coast. South Konkan may also brace for some good showers. Moreover, the cyclonic circulation over Chhattisgarh persists and is likely to move in a westerly direction. In the wake of this, Vidarbha will continue with good rains for the next 24 hours. Rainfall activity is likely to enhance over North Konkan and adjoining North Madhya Maharashtra region as the cyclonic circulation will move gradually westwards. This system is expected to remain close to North Maharashtra and adjoining South Madhya Pradesh after 24-48 hours.
