At present, the Depression is present over Chhattisgarh and its adjoining areas and is moving further Westwards while covering Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Gujarat. Tomorrow even more rains are likely over Gujarat and might possibly cover Saurashtra and Kutch as well. Thus, the weather forecast for Central India seems promising with more rains coming up for the region in the upcoming days.
Moreover, the rainfall in Central India has become surplus by 5% (as of August 08). Madhya Maharashtra in the region is surplus by a whopping 65%. Saurashtra and Kutch is the only region that is deficient by a huge margin of 30%.
The country has been divided into four major subdivisions namely- East and Northeast India, Northwest India, South Peninsula and Central India. Out of these four regions, Central India comprises of the maximum area with states like Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh.
Rains in Central India are governed by systems formed in the Bay of Bengal which then move further West to induce rains over this region. Western Disturbances and Monsoon Troughs hardly affect the region.
Monsoon made a delayed arrival over Central India and then progressed with a sluggish pace, making a poor start over the region. June started miserably and ended with a deficiency of 31%, while the month of July was a mixed bag.
On a good note, this time most systems followed westward tracks passing close to Central India, thus giving rains here.
No significant system formed in the Bay of Bengal in the month of June while July came as a boon and this is when the rain deficiency figures started catching up. Despite the Break Monsoon conditions July ended on a quite satisfactory note for the region.
August too started with good rain. The first Depression of the season also forming in the Bay of Bengal in the first week itself. The system has already given exceptionally heavy rains over the states of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh in the last few days.
