More heavy Monsoon rains in Uttarakhand; Landslide, cloudburst alert issued

Rain in NainitalHeavy to extremely heavy Monsoon rains have lashed parts of Uttarakhand during the last 24 hours. In fact, Nainital and Pantnagar has even recorded three-digit rainfall to the tune of 135 mm and 121 mm, respectively.

Further also, these heavy to very heavy rain and thundershowers are likely to continue on Friday as well. With this, threat of landslide and cloudburst are looming large over the hilly state and tourists are advised to avoid travelling to these areas, particularly Almora, Mukteshwar and Nainital.

Following are the rainfall figures recorded in span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday.

At present, a Western Disturbance is moving across the Western Himalayas, while a trough is running from Punjab up to East India along the foothills of Himalayas. The systems will keep conditions conducive for more rains.

Thereafter on Saturday rains may take a break of 24 hours as the Western Disturbance will clear away the region. But then again by Sunday, rains are likely to make comeback on account of fresh Western Disturbance.

Moreover, the cyclonic circulation over East Uttar Pradesh and Bihar will also move in west direction. Thus, We can expect another spell of heavy to extremely heavy rains from July 9-11.

Weathermen predict that intensity of rains will be more over southern districts of the state such as Dehradun, Pantnagar, Almora, Nainital, Rudrapur, Ramnagar and Pithoragarh.
