There seems no respite from the ongoing torrential Monsoon rains over Maharashtra as heavy to extremely heavy rains continue to occur over most parts of the state.
Konkan was the most affected region as many stations of the division had recorded three-digit rains on the last day. Rains over Vidarbha were also heavy and many districts of this region saw heavy Monsoon showers.
In the last 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Sunday, Dahanu recorded extremely heavy three-digit rains to the tune of 354 mm, Mumbai’s Colaba observatory witnessed 171 mm of Monsoon showers, Thane 156 mm, Santa Cruz witnessed 122 mm of heavy showers, Gondia 106 mm, Alibagh 91 mm, Mahabaleshwar 87 mm, Harnai 58 mm, Jalna 48 mm, Vengurla 40 mm, Buldana 39 mm, Bramhapuri 37 mm, Nagpur 31 mm, Ratnagiri 23 mm, Yeotmal 22 mm, and Amravati recorded 7 mm of rains.

As per Skymet Weather, a cyclonic circulation is persisting over Gujarat and adjoining North Konkan at mid-levels. This system is responsible for such incessant rains over the state. As of now, we expect heavy to very heavy rains to continue over parts of Konkan region, mainly North Konkan for the next 3-4 days. Cities like Mumbai, Dahanu, Ratnagiri, Thane, and Alibagh may witness some more heavy rains. Thus, there is more chaos in store for Mumbaikars for the upcoming days.

Parts of Vidarbha, cities like Nagpur and Akola may also get heavy rains for next 24-48 hours. Meanwhile, parts of Madhya Maharashtra, like Pune, Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli may receive moderate showers. On the other hand, rains will be comparatively lesser over parts of Marathwada in cities like Jalna, Parbhani, and Aurangabad.
Hence, for the next three to four days, no relief can be expected for Maharashtra and the ongoing rains would, in turn, aggravate the flooding situation.
At this stage, let us see the impact of this weather on the agriculture belt of Maharashtra:
As rains are expected to continue over Maharashtra, farmers are advised to drain out excess water from rice field wherever necessary. Farmers are also advised to apply urea fertilizer for rice nursery.
For cotton, farmers are suggested to use pesticide to avoid initial incidences of sucking pest. Additionally, farmers should complete the sowing of Soybean, Cotton, Maize, Bajra and Tur Paddy, and Sugarcane. Farmers should also undertake inter cropping of maize with black gram/green gram/soybean/ groundnut.
