Monsoon trough to bring rain over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, West UP, North MP

August 6, 2015 5:21 PM |

Rain in PunjabAt present, there is one low pressure area over Punjab and another less marked low pressure area over Madhya Pradesh and adjoining Uttar Pradesh region. The Monsoon trough is running across these two weather systems up to Northeast Bay of Bengal. Therefore, the Monsoon trough is passing through Ferozepur, DelhiLucknow, Patna, Malda and thence southeastwards to northeast Bay of Bengal across Bangladesh.

The Monsoon trough was south of its original position for many days on account of the depression hovering over Central India. The weather system did not allow the Monsoon trough to move northwards, closer to its original position.  This weather system has now weakened considerably and its influence has also died down. Therefore, the western end of the Monsoon trough has moved northwards.

The Monsoon trough will bring rainfall over the foothills of the Himalayas, right from Himachal Pradesh to the Northeastern states during next 24 hours. Good showers likely in Bijnor, Bahraich, Gorakhpur, Champaran, Sapaul, Kishanganj, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

The low pressure area, which was over Northwest Madhya Pradesh and adjoining Southwest Uttar Pradesh will gradually move northwards and is expected to merge with the cyclonic circulation over Haryana and Punjab. The combined effect of these two weather systems along with the Monsoon trough will increase the Monsoon activity prevailing over the plains of North India including Punjab, Haryana, Delhi-NCR, West Uttar Pradesh and North Madhya Pradesh. On the other hand, weather in South Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Marathwada will once again go dry.
