Monsoon to weaken over Gujarat soon

Even though Gujarat has been receiving good rains in past few days, rainfall deficiency refuses to come down substantially. The rainfall figure for Gujarat stands at 19% of the normal rainfall whereas Saurashtra & Kutch region’s rainfall statistic is 10% less than the normal.

Till the end of July, very less rain was witnessed over Gujarat state which is evident as July ended with high rain deficiency. Gujarat region ended the month of July with being rain deficient by 41% whereas Saurashtra & Kutch was rain deficient by 56%.

August witnessed one of the rainiest spells over the state. This heavy spell of rain brought down the rainfall deficiency of the entire state significantly.

Since the beginning of August, successive cyclonic circulations and low-pressure area affected the state. These back to back weather systems led to fairly widespread rains over the state. But now, the low-pressure area which was affecting North Gujarat has moved towards North Rajasthan and has weakened into a cyclonic circulation.

Therefore, we expect rains over Gujarat to reduce but, due to continuous southwesterly flow of moist winds from the Arabian Sea, scattered light to moderate rains will continue. Though the intensity of rains will reduce significantly but weather will not go dry completely.
