Monsoon to take a few more days to reach Malwa region of Punjab and Haryana

July 10, 2019 8:05 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Southwest Monsoon has now advanced to most parts of Haryana, and some parts of Punjab. However, there are still some areas left waiting to be covered by Monsoon rains.

The region where Monsoon has yet not arrived is the Malwa region which consists of portions from Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan. In Punjab, the Malwa region constitutes Fazilka, Moga, Bathinda, Barnala, Fardikot, Patiala, Sangrur, and Ferozepur.

For Haryana, the cities include Sirsa, Kaithal, Fatehabad while Sri Ganganagar and Hanumangarh are areas in the Malwa region from Rajasthan.

Southwest Monsoon has not reached only these areas.

Talking about Punjab and Haryana, good rains during the last 24 hours were seen for Patiala at 37 mm, Chandigarh saw 29 mm, Ludhiana 12 mm, Narnaul 13, Rohtak 18 mm, Sirsa 9 mm, Hisar 7 mm and Jalandhar 12 mm.

The Malwa region is the last pocket to be covered but then it does not look like that for next 3-4 days, Monsoon will not arrive. After July 14, rains will appear, which will be light in nature and that is when Monsoon will arrive over the rest of Punjab and Haryana. However, Jaisalmer and Bikaner will still have to wait for more days, i.e., at least around July 17 to see the arrival of Monsoon.
