In the last 24 hours, the Minambakkam and the Nungambakkam observatories witnessed traces of light rainfall. Moreover, isolated rains have been observed during the last two days. This is due to the absence of any significant weather system over Southwest Bay of Bengal.
As of now, Skymet Weather does not expect any major increase in rains over the city. During Southwest Monsoon, Chennai only get to see moderate to heavy rains when any cyclonic circulation or low pressure area develops over Bay of Bengal off South Andhra Pradesh or Tamil Nadu Coast.

As per weathermen, any such weather system is not likely but isolated thundery activity or light rain may occur during late evening or afternoon hours over the city and adjoining areas. This will not bring any change on the ongoing sultry weather over Chennai.
The monthly average rainfall for the month of July stands at 103.8 mm. Keeping in view the situation we can hope that some heavy showers may occur that may subsidy the city to attain its monthly mean. Currently, Tamil Nadu is rain deficit by 2%.
