Monsoon to remain subdued over Bihar, Rains not likely before next week

July 20, 2018 2:06 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Bihar is one of the most rain deficient states after East Uttar Pradesh with the rainfall deficiency at 45%. Since the onset of Southwest Monsoon, Bihar has not been lucky to receive some good continuous rains.

The reason for the continuous dry spell over the state can be related with the absence of any significant weather system over the region. As per Skymet Weather, the axis of Monsoon trough has most of the time remained south of Bihar. Moreover, any weather system such as the low-pressure area or a cyclonic circulation that had developed over the Bay of Bengal mostly traveled towards Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.

As of now also, we do not expect much rain activities over the state in the coming days. Though occasional showers may occur over the state, rain intensity is not expected to increase before July 27.

It would be after the above-mentioned date that Bihar may get some light to moderate rains for the next 2-3 days. Cities like Bhagalpur, Purnea, Katihar, Muzaffarpur, Patna, and Gaya may receive these spells. Thus, these would probably be the first good spell over the state.

The temperatures that are settling between 37 and 39 degrees Celsius may also witness a slight drop after these rainy sessions.
