Rain in Delhi and NCR_Eprahar 600

Delhi has been witnessing rains since yesterday. In fact, few areas have recorded moderate showers. These rains have given a sigh of relief to Delhiites from the ongoing hot and humid weather. During the last 24 hours, Safdarjung Observatory recorded rain to the tune of 53 mm, while Palam Observatory recorded 28 mm of rainfall during the similar time frame. The maximum and minimum temperatures have also curtailed down significantly across most parts.

According to Skymet Weather, these rain and thundershowers can be attributed to a Western Disturbance over East Jammu and Kashmir as well as a trough that is running south of Delhi. Besides this, easterly winds from Bay of Bengal have also increased the moisture levels over the area.

Weathermen at Skymet expect this trough to oscillate north-south and thus maintaining its locus near Delhi. This oscillation of trough is liable for Monsoon rains over the northwestern plains and East India.

Further, these rain and thundershowers will continue over Delhi and its adjoining regions of Noida, Faridabad, Ghaziabad and Gurugram for at least next few days. The intensity of these rains will be moderate with heavy falls over one or two places.

With incessant rains and persistent flow of easterly winds across the region, we can expect Monsoon to make onset over Delhi-NCR anytime now. The normal date of arrival of Monsoon is around June 28, however delay of a day or two is also considered to be normal.
