After battering Central India, Vigorous Monsoon conditions are now heading towards East Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

Both the regions have been rain deficit and as on July 12, Bihar was rain deficient by 22% and East Uttar Pradesh by 4%. However, with this rainy spell approaching, deficiency in both the regions is likely to be covered up.

According to Skymet Weather, the low-pressure area over Northwest Madhya Pradesh is showing signs of moving northwards and so does the axis of Monsoon trough. Moreover, the passage of fresh Western Disturbance over Jammu and Kashmir will also pull these systems upwards.

With this, the Monsoon trough will run close to Indo-Gangetic plains along the foothills of Himalayas after next 24 hours.

In wake of this, rains will start making appearance over Bihar and East Uttar Pradesh during the next 24 hours. Thereafter, the intensity of rains will increase significantly July 15 onwards and heavy to very heavy rains are expected over Bihar and East Uttar Pradesh. The upcoming spell is likely to continue for 2-3 days.

Flood threat looms large

With these approaching rain, the flood threat is also looming large over both the regions. According to Skymet Weather, Bihar and adjoining East Uttar Pradesh are prone to floods after the establishment of Monsoon trough.

Now with the Monsoon trough moving along the foothills of Himalayas, we can expect some vigorous rain activity over Nepal. The major catchment areas of the several rivers flowing across Bihar and Uttar Pradesh lies in Nepal. With these torrential rains over Nepal, rivers will swell and this overflowing water will trigger floods over these states.
