Monsoon has marked its arrival in South Gujarat on June 22 with a delay of almost 10 days. By June 26, Monsoon had covered most parts of the Saurashtra as well.

During last 24 hours, southern parts of Gujarat have received light to moderate rains at some places. Rainfall recorded for most parts of the state during last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Sunday is listed in the table below:

The reason for these light to moderate rainy spells can be attributed to a cyclonic circulation over south Gujarat and adjoining Arabian Sea. This circulation has intensified into a low-pressure area which is expected to intensify further.

As per Skymet Weather, by June 29, rain intensity is expected to increase over Saurashtra and parts of Kutch will also start receiving light scattered rains. Hence, good rainfall is expected over southern region of Gujarat especially coastal areas where few heavy spells are also foreseen.

Monsoon may further advance and may cover some more parts of Saurashtra and Kutch by June 30 and these rain activities are likely to continue in the first week of July as well. Gujarat region has received scanty rainfall and at present, it is observing a rain deficiency of 83 percent. Rain in Saurashtra is also deficient by 84 percent.

Though rain deficiency will decrease to some extent, however, significant improvement is still not foreseen during the month of June. Monsoon may revive over Gujarat in the month of July as Skymet Weather's prediction for July and August are slightly above the normal rainfall.
