Monsoon to arrive in East India soon

June 16, 2016 4:07 PM | Skymet Weather Team

East India including Coastal Odisha, many parts of Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand and East Uttar Pradesh has been receiving good showers for the past 48 hours. These rains can be attributed to a trough which is extending from northern plains to North Bay of Bengal across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal.

Taking into account the intensity of these rains, it can be predicted that Monsoon will cover entire West Bengal, parts of Odisha and East Bihar within the next 48 hrs. Moreover, easterly and southeasterly winds from Bay of Bengal have been feeding moisture over entire East India. Good showers are also expected over few parts of Central Uttar Pradesh.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, rainfall recorded in pockets of Odisha were as follows: Paradip recorded 58 mm, Chandbali measured 15 mm rain, Keonjhargarh recorded 28.4 mm, and Pulbani and Cuttack measured 21 mm of rains each.

Rainfall recorded in regions of West Bengal during the same time period include Asansol 21.6 mm, Coochbehar 87.8 mm and Darjeeling 18.8 mm.

In parts of Uttar Pradesh as on Wednesday, 08:30 am, Sultanpur recorded 88 mm rainfall and Muzaffarnagar measured 13 mm showers, Lucknow 19 mm and Baraich measured 31 mm rains.

Another cyclonic circulation is marked over eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh adjoining Sub Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. The combined effect of both these cyclonic circulations will give fairly widespread rain over Bihar, Jharkhand and at many pockets of Uttar Pradesh. Light to moderate rains will continue over eastern regions and foothills of Uttar Pradesh as well.

Farmers sowing Paddy crops will be benefited the most due to these rains as this is the best time for sowing in most parts of East India particularly Odisha and West Bengal.
