Monsoon to Advance in Southern States, Relief Expected in North

June 2, 2024 12:29 PM |

Good news for South India! The monsoon is expected to gain momentum within the next two days, bringing much-needed rain to the region. While the south enjoys the downpour, monsoon activities in other parts of the country will vary.

Heavy rainfall is anticipated in several districts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh over the next few days. This surge in rain will significantly help push the monsoon further north. The monsoon is expected to soon cover the entirety of Lakshadweep and reach southern parts of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and some areas of Tamil Nadu.

Meanwhile, heavy rain continues to lash North East India, bringing relief from the heat and providing good conditions for Sikkim and the northern districts of West Bengal. However, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Gangetic West Bengal might have to wait a little longer for the monsoon's arrival. Rain activity in these regions is expected to remain light, potentially delaying the monsoon's advance by a few days.

Interestingly, despite being ahead of schedule in eastern India, the monsoon seems to be bypassing Bihar, Jharkhand, and Gangetic West Bengal for now. These areas are unlikely to see any significant rainfall for at least a week.

On a brighter note, residents of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan can expect some respite from the scorching heat. As predicted, these states will experience dust storms, thunderstorms, and rain. These weather events have already caused a significant drop in maximum temperatures, providing much-needed relief. Thunderstorms and rain are expected to continue in some parts of Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh over the next two days. Even Delhi might see light thunderstorms and drizzle in the late afternoon or evening.

Looking ahead, a new Western Disturbance is expected to arrive in the mountains around June 4th. This weather system will likely trigger another round of increased rainfall in the mountains between June 4th and June 6th. There's also a chance of rain returning to the northern districts of Punjab and Haryana during this period.
