The state of West Bengal has been one of the deficit pockets in East India along with Jharkhand and Bihar. Initially, the deficiency was at 30 percent, but with some good showers recently over the state, the figures have come down to 27 percent but the situation still remains alarming.
However, the capital city of Kolkata has been receiving good rains. The August rains have been a little less than normal but the figures are still alright. The Dum Dum's observatory normal for August is 355.4 mm, and this month seen 343 mm. Alipore's August normals stand at 371.1 mm, and the region has received 318 mm. In fact, the last 24 hours also saw some good showers.
Not only this, more rains are coming up for Kolkata as a Cyclonic Circulation is coming in the Bay of Bengal which may also become a Low Pressure Area. Thus, for another week or so, we can expect some good rains for another week.
