Monsoon systems to enhance rains over North Gujarat and South Rajasthan

July 11, 2016 6:18 PM |

Monsoon systems to enhance rains over North Gujarat and South RajasthanDuring the Southwest Monsoon, several weather systems come up in both Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea and enhance rainfall activity over the country. Currently, the Bay of Bengal is more active and several Monsoon systems have come up in the past few days.

Currently, a low-pressure area is over Northeast Madhya Pradesh and its adjoining areas. The previous weather system in the form of a cyclonic circulation over West Madhya Pradesh and its neighbouring areas also persist.

This very system had caused flooding rains over many areas of Madhya Pradesh.

Now, a fresh cyclonic circulation has come up and is currently lying over Odisha and its adjoining areas.

At present, almost all the three Monsoon systems are aligned right from West Madhya Pradesh up to the Odisha region. The entire stretch of the weather systems is just about 1500 km. The individual sustenance of these systems is difficult particularly in the upper and mid-levels. So much so that these systems have a tendency to merge with one another which is why a shear zone develops over a wider area.

Due to the combination of these weather systems, Maharashtra, West Madhya Pradesh, South Rajasthan and North Gujarat will be the most active rainfall pockets during the next 24 to 48 hours. With the passage and approach of a Western Disturbance, rainfall activity will also increase over Northern Plains including Delhi and the NCR region around July 14.
