Updated on July 25, 2015: Satellite imagery suggest that the cyclonic circulation over Bay of Bengal has become more organized and formed into a low pressure area. Coastal parts have already been receiving good Monsoon showers. This system will persist without any significant movement. It can also become a well marked low pressure area.
In the last 24 hours, this system has given good rains in West Bengal. Sriniketan has received 170 mm of rain, while Krishnanagar has observed 84 mm of rain. More rain is expected in the region. Also, Coastal Odisha is likely to receive good Monsoon showers.
Updated on July 24, 2015: Bay of Bengal has remained active in terms of generating Monsoon systems. Most of these systems are cyclonic circulations moving across the central parts of India reaching right up to Gujarat and giving good rains. One such system has already given good rains over Gujarat. Usually these systems either move westwards or northwestwards.
Another cyclonic circulation is in the offing and is now over Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh. This system will follow the same pattern as the previous circulations developed in the Bay of Bengal. Another system is being seen as a circulation and is expected to get organized in a few days into either a low pressure area or a cyclonic circulation.
This system will track more westwards over Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat. Good rainfall is expected over parched areas of Vidharbha, Telangana and Marathwada in the coming week. Parts of Rajasthan will also receive good amount of rain in the next few days.
In the coming days, Central and East India can expect good Monsoon activity. However, the northern parts of India particularly the northern plains may receive less rain in comparison to Central and East India.
Updated on July 21, 2015: Since the past few days, Monsoon rains have been mainly confined to the eastern as well as central parts of India. These rains were a result of the Monsoon systems including the cyclonic circulations prevailing over the region.
Satellite imagery indicates the arrival of another Monsoon system which is forming over North Bay of Bengal. Presently, the system is a feeble cyclonic circulation which is likely to become more organized in the coming days. The systems that tend to develop in the Bay of Bengal increase rainfall activity in the country.
In another 48 hours or so, this Monsoon system brewing in the North Bay of Bengal is most likely to develop into a low pressure area or a cyclonic circulation. The last two systems of the season also followed a similar track. Whenever these Monsoon systems move inland, instead of losing intensity they tend to strengthen over land and activate Monsoon in the country. Moisture laden winds from the Bay of Bengal gives strength to the Monsoon system resulting in good rains over a few areas.
After gaining strength, this Monsoon system is expected to give good rains over highly rain deficient regions of Maharashtra including Marathwada, Vidharba and Madhya Maharashtra. It will further travel to Gujarat and give rain over the state and its adjoining areas.
