Odisha has received good showers over the weekend. This has come as a welcome relief as the state has not received enough rains so far. Yes, on and off rains have been continuing over the state but not good enough to attain the normal Monsoon rainfall figures.

The cyclonic circulation over Northwest Bay of Bengal and neighboring areas seems to be intensifying at the moment. It is likely to develop into a low pressure area during next 48 hours, gradually moving in a northward direction. According to Skymet Weather, it will reach Gangetic West Bengal after about a day or so.

As had been predicted by Skymet Weather, the weather system has brought moderate to heavy rains over Odisha.

In a span of 24 hours, from 8.30 am on Saturday, Sambalpur received heavy showers of 150 mm. Even Paradip received 44 mm of rainfall, Puri 35 mm, Jharsuguda 28 mm, Balasore 27 mm, Chandbali and Bhubaneswar 13 mm each.

Coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh also received good rains in wake of the Monsoon system in the Bay of Bengal. Skymet Weather expects good rains in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh for another 24 to 48 hours. Thereafter, rains will reduce over these two states and increase over Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal.

So far, Coastal Andhra Pradesh has received normal rains to the tune of 6%. However, Odisha is witnessing deficit rainfall by 16%. Nevertheless, the ongoing spell of rainfall will bring down the deficiency levels in Odisha.
