The state of Rajasthan has been receiving good rains since the beginning of August. Back to back Monsoon systems have been giving rains over the desert state. While these showers have not been witnessed over the entire state at once, rainfall in patches have also been good enough for Rajasthan.

In fact, this year, the state has also been witnessing a rainfall surplus of 26 percent making it fall in the excess rains category. Usually, the entire state of Rajasthan does not receive very heavy Monsoon rains.

Very heavy rains have been recorded over Chittorgarh. The city has recorded a whopping 229 mm of rainfall in 24 hours' time.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Sri Ganganagar has recorded a whopping 46 mm of rain followed by Bikaner where 44 mm of rain was observed. Other areas to have received rains include Ajmer 19 mm, and Jodhpur 5 mm.

These rains can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation which is currently lying over South Pakistan and adjoining Southwest Rajasthan and the Kutch region. Also, the axis of the Monsoon trough is passing through Bikaner and Jaipur which has further enhanced the rainfall activity over the region.

Yesterday, Rajasthan on an average received 7.9 mm of rain against its daily average of 4.9 mm which happens to be 61 percent above the normal levels. Now, during the next 24 hours, Monsoon rains will continue over parts of Rajasthan. However, the intensity will be higher over the eastern parts.
