Monsoon system brings record breaking rain in Jamshedpur

September 6, 2016 9:15 AM |

Jamshedpur RainJamshedpur was blessed with good Monsoon rains in the month of August and now September is also bringing good showers over the city.

In a span of 24 hours from 8.30 am on Monday, Jamshedpur received heavy rains to the tune of 159 mm. This is the highest rainfall for the month of September in the last 10 years. Earlier in September, 2006 the city had recorded 132 mm of rainfall.

The all-time highest rainfall was witnessed in the year 1978 when the city received 196.2 mm.

The monthly mean for the city is 224.5 mm and seems like it will not be very difficult for Jamshedpur to attain this rainfall figure very soon. The city had left behind the monthly mean rainfall in the month of August within the first three weeks itself.

This spell of rainfall could be attributed to the low pressure area which is lying around Gangetic West Bengal.

Skymet Weather expects Monsoon rains to continue over Jharkhand including Jamshedpur throughout the day. Rains will continue in the adjoining state of West Bengal as well. In fact, we expect that rains will continue over Jharkhand for the next 24 to 48 hours.

During last 24 hours Kolkata also received heavy showers of 132 mm. Several places in Bihar also received heavy showers.
