Monsoon showers have been lashing Delhi/NCR on a regular note in August. It has rained, less or more, almost every day. Base observatory Safdarjung recorded 30mm and airport Palam 46mm rainfall in the last 24 hours. All parts of NCR received varied amounts of monsoon showers in the afternoon, evening, and night. Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad and Gautam Budhnagar witnessed moderate to intense showers. Showers were rather strong and hefty for Gurugram creating chaos and disrupting connectivity.

78th Independence Day is nearing and the ongoing rains may act as spoilsport towards the grand celebrations in the national capital. With the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign of the Prime Minister, this is the occasion to instil the spirit of patriotism and national pride among citizens by encouraging every Indian to hoist the national flag. The theme of the 78th Independence Day is ‘Viksit Bharat’. It symbolizes the government’s vision of transforming India into a developed nation by 2047, the 100th year of Independence.

The grand celebrations in the capital are put at risk with monsoon rains likely on the event day. Delhi has been witnessing light to moderate showers for the last many days and this will continue through this week as well. It is very much on the predicted lines. Rains are likely to pick up during mid-week across the region of Delhi/NCR.

A cyclonic circulation is marked over Northeast Rajasthan and adjoining Delhi region. The monsoon trough has kept very close proximity to the capital city for the last week. This state is likely to continue for the next 5 days, till 16th August 2024. Under the combined influence of these two systems, Delhi and its suburbs will have active monsoon conditions throughout this entire week. The intensity and spread of these rains will be large between the 14th and 16th August 2024. The grand show at the Red Fort, on the morning of Independence Day, also bears the risk of being splashed with sporadic monsoon showers.
