Monsoon showers lash Odisha, more in offing

Rain in OdishaModerate to heavy Monsoon rains have been lashing Odisha during the last few days. Moreover, good showers are likely to continue in the coming days as well. In span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Jharsuguda recorded whopping 163.4 mm of rain, followed by Balasore at 49 mm.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, series of cyclonic circulations passing through the state has kept Monsoon current active over the region.

At present, a cyclonic circulation is prevailing over Chhattisgarh and adjoining areas of Odisha which is giving majority of the rainfall over the state. While, another cyclonic circulation can be seen over North Bay of Bengal, adjoining Gangetic West Bengal and Coastal Odisha, which has been contributing in the rains.

As per the forecast by Skymet, state may get a breather during next 24 hours as the system over Chhattisgarh will move westwards over Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra region. While, heavy rains will return over Odisha from July 24 onwards, as system over Bay of Bengal will move inland.

So far, state has recorded 186.9 mm of rain against the monthly average rainfall of 337 mm. And, with the predicted rainfall, Odisha is expected to reach its monthly normal rainfall with an ease.
