The northeastern states of the country witnessed heavy rains due to the Cyclone Mora that hammered the Bangladesh Coast between Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar on May 30. On account of this, cyclone which weakened into a depression over the northeastern states led to heavy rains.

As the effect of Cyclone Mora subsided, the intensity of rains over northeastern states have reduced but still many areas are receiving light to moderate thunderstorm activities.
Now a trough will persist from Sub-Himalayan West Bengal to North Bay Bengal leading to increasing in moisture over northeastern states. Therefore, we expect light to moderate rain and thundershower activities to continue over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura and at a few places over Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Meghalaya.
In the last 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Wednesday, Silchar received 65 mm of rainfall, Golpara 22 mm, Pasighat 47 mm. Whereas Rangia and North Lakhimpur received 16 mm of rainfall.
After June 3, we expect a marginal decrease in rains over northeastern states but the weather will not remain completely dry.
Monsoon has already reached Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and parts of Arunachal Pradesh. We expect Monsoon to advance further and is most likely to cover the remaining parts of Northeast India in next three to four days.
