In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Karwar recorded heavy rain to the tune of 73.6 mm, Honavar 63.2 mm, Cannur 30 mm, Kozhikode 16 mm and Karipur 9 mm of rains. In the same span of time, Goa recorded light rain to the tune of 6 mm.
An offshore trough is extending from South Maharashtra to North Kerala coast. A cyclonic circulation is over South Madhya Maharashtra and adjoining South Konkan and Goa. With the influence of these weather systems, we expect moderate to heavy rains to continue over North Coastal Karnataka. In fact, few good spells are also possible over the North Interior districts of Karnataka.
Meanwhile, the intensity of Monsoon rains would be less over South Interior Karnataka. Thus, over these districts light rain activities will occur. Bengaluru will also witness light rainfall activity.
As per Skymet Weather, these rain activities will continue for another 24 hours. Thereafter, the intensity of Monsoon rains will reduce over the interior parts but the north coastal districts will continue to receive good rains for another two to three days.
Union territory Goa lies adjacent to the state of Karnataka. Therefore, the intensity of rain will also be high over Goa as Monsoon has also made an onset. On and off moderate to heavy spells are expected to continue over Goa for next three to four days. In fact, along with rains, the wind speed will also increase gradually and the sea conditions will become rough. Therefore, the tourists should avoid visiting Goa and places along Coastal Karnataka.
