The entire state of Madhya Pradesh has received moderate to heavy rains during the last 24 hours. Mandla has received 70 mm of rainfall, followed by Umaria 67.2 mm, Rewa 41.6 mm and Khajuraho 38.8 mm in a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday.
All these weather conditions can be attributed to the Cyclonic Circulation over northern parts of Madhya Pradesh and adjoining South Uttar Pradesh. This system is extending up to 4.5 km above the mean sea level. The same system would further weaken and move slightly eastwards.
In the wake of this movement, the intensity of rain would reduce gradually, however, moderate rains with isolated heavy spells would continue for another 12 to 18 hours.
Places like Tikamgarh, Panna, Rewa, Jabalpur, Sidhi, Satna, Anuppur, Chhatarpur and Chhindwara may receive moderate to heavy rain. Meanwhile, places like Bhopal, Ujjain, Indore, Dhar, and Khargone may observe light to moderate showers.
Throughout this episode, East Madhya Pradesh would see more rains than West Madhya Pradesh. After 24 hours, the rainfall activities would start reducing.
The excess amount of rainfall and subsequent waterlogging may damage crops like Soyabean, Groundnut, Cotton, Jowar, maize, and Bajra.
During this Monsoon season, so far, there hardly has been any day when it hasn’t rain in Madhya Pradesh. The surplus rains going on in the state can be attributed to back to back Low-Pressure Areas or Cyclonic Circulations.
According to the rainfall data available with Skymet from June 1 to September 28, West Madhya Pradesh is rain surplus by 61%, while East Madhya Pradesh by 22%.
