West Coast Rains 1

Southwest Monsoon 2017 has made an onset over the Konkan region along with a few areas of Coastal Gujarat as well. Now, the entire West Coast is under the influence of Monsoon rains. In fact, during the last 2 to 3 days, there have been a few very good spells of rain. Three digit rains above the 200-mm mark have also been recorded in some areas.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, Harnai recorded a whopping 124 mm of rain, Honavar 58.2 mm, Bhira 150 mm, Alibag 51 mm, Kannur 61 mm, Ratnagiri 44 mm, and Mangalore 40 mm. These rains have been attributed to the trough which has been persisting along the West Coast. Now, this trough will weaken and will run only from Coastal Karnataka to Kerala. Therefore, rain intensity over northern parts of Konkan and Goa will start reducing.

Thus, good rains which were lashing Dahanu, Ratnagiri, Harnai, Bhira and adjoining areas will take a backseat after 24 hours. However, coastal Karnataka will continue with moderate showers. Light to moderate rains over Kerala. Monsoon rains normally occur in surges over West Coast. Thus, after June 18, another surge is expected which will once again revive Monsoon rains around Mumbai and adjoining areas.
