Monsoon rains to reduce over flood-hit Madhya Pradesh

July 13, 2016 5:14 PM |

Rain in MPAt present, Madhya Pradesh is witnessing the highest rainfall in the country. As on June 12, East Madhya Pradesh is excess by 75%, while West Madhya Pradesh is by 89%.

Heavy to extremely heavy Monsoon rains have been going on over the state for last many days, leading to the flash floods over several districts.

The last 24 hours were no different and heavy rainfall was reported from many parts of the state such as Hoshangabad, Bhopal and Jabalpur.

The ongoing active to vigorous Monsoon conditions were on account of the low-pressure area over Northwest Madhya Pradesh. Moreover, the axis of Monsoon trough is also passing through the state leading to fairly widespread rain and thundershowers.

However, this low-pressure area is now expected to shift northwards and weaken gradually. With this, the axis of Monsoon trough will also start moving towards north.

Hence, moderate rains will continue over many places with few isolated heavy showers over central and northwestern parts of Madhya Pradesh during the next 24 hours. Thereafter, intensity of rains will reduce but isolated pockets of North and Northeast Madhya Pradesh will continue to record light to moderate Monsoon rain.

This significant reduction in rains will bring much-needed relief from the flash floods.

Following are the rainfall figures recorded across Madhya Pradesh in span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday.
