Most parts of East India recorded normal Monsoon rainfall in June, except Bihar that was deficit by 28 per cent. However, prospects of rains are not very promising for the region in coming days.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, scattered light to moderate rainfall can be expected over parts of West Bengal, Odisha and Jharkhand during next 24 hours. Thereafter, weather activity will reduce over entire region but scattered showers will continue over Jharkhand and Odisha.

In absence of any significant weather system, Monsoon current remained weak over the region.

However, we can expect revival of Monsoon rains by July 5 over parts of Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar and East Uttar Pradesh. As per the forecast by Skymet, a cyclonic circulation that is prevailing over North Bay of Bengal will intensify into a low pressure area by July 5 and will start giving weather over the entire region. In wake of this, the rainfall is expected to increase by at least five to 10 per cent above normal.

This year, Monsoon made late onset over Bihar and East Uttar Pradesh. Post that a low pressure system was formed over the region that gave more of rain over parts of Uttar Pradesh, leaving Bihar.
