The state of Jharkhand along with West Bengal have enjoyed some good spells of rain. Many areas in these states have been observing moderate to heavy rains for the past two to three days. In fact, these areas have also recorded three digit rains.
Rains were more in intensity over West Bengal. Sriniketan recorded a whopping 58.6 mm during the last 24 hours. Rainfall figures over other cities of the state are as follows, Asansol 21 mm, Kolkata 2.7 mm, Midnapore 10.6 mm,
During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Jamshedpur in Jharkhand recorded 21.8 mm of rain, Daltonganj 4.9 mm and Ranchi 2.4 mm.
These rains can be attributed to the well-marked low which remained stationary over Jharkhand and adjoining West Bengal. However, now the system is expected to move in a west-northwest direction. In fact, the Monsoon system is also likely to weaken into a low pressure area during the next 24 hours.
Now, due to the movement and the weakening of the system, rainfall intensity is expected to reduce significantly over both Jharkhand and West Bengal.
So far, the state of West Bengal is witnessing a rainfall surplus of 6 percent making it fall under the normal category. Also, Jharkhand is rain deficient by 8 percent.
Now, good rains are expected to make a comeback over the region around next weekend. Till then, subdued Monsoon rains will be observed.
