The Monsoon surge plays an eminent role in pouring over regions along the West Coast of the country. Most of the regions lying in the West Coast have seen rains of varied intensity since Southwest Monsoon marked its onset.
Moderate to heavy rains have been continuing over South Konkan & Goa and Coastal Karnataka region from the last many days. Whereas, North Coastal Maharashtra and Kerala has been witnessing light to moderate showers.

In fact, light to moderate rains with a few isolated heavy showers have occurred along West Coast in the last 24 hours as well. Within a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Monday, Ratnagiri recorded heavy spells of 69 mm, Panaji 41 mm, Vengurla 34 mm, Honnavar 16 mm, Thrissur 15 mm, Karwar 11.4 mm and Alibag witnessed 10 mm of rains.
As per Skymet Weather, the Monsoon surge which was responsible for good rains over Coastal Karnataka and adjoining regions is at present not very active. Due to this, the offshore trough has also become less marked ans is presently, running from South Konkan & Goa to Kerala.

Hence, the rains have reduced comparatively and will continue to lash the West Coastal areas of the country with a reduced intensity. Similar weather conditions will continue over the region during the next 3-4 days, though isolated places may record heavy showers.
However, the Monsoon will once again pick up the pace as the off-shore trough will become active over South Konkan & Goa and Kerala by June 25. Henceforth, few moderate rains with one or two heavy spells can be anticipated over the region.
Though, Mumbai along with the North Maharashtra coast will have to wait until June 27 to see some heavy rains.
