Jharkhand has received heavy to extremely heavy rains from July 22 to July 26. These rains ware attributed to the depression which persisted over Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal. In fact, places such as Jamshedpur and Ranchi received continuous moderate to heavy rains for consecutive days.
Thereafter, only light rains continued over Jharkhand. However, rain has picked up the pace again and in the past 24 hours from 8.30 am on Monday, Ranchi witnessed heavy rain of 48 mm and Jamshedpur recorded 29 mm of moderate rain.
Bihar also received scattered light rain throughout the second half of July but the intensity and spread were very less. In the past 24 hours from 8.30 am on Monday, Gaya recorded rain to the tune of 13 mm, while, Bhagalpur, Purina and Supaul recorded light rains.

As per Skymet Weather, the axis of Monsoon trough is presently running across Bihar, therefore, rains are expected to increase over the state during the next three to four days. However, the intensity of rains will not be very heavy and continuous. But on and off light rains will continue over Bihar. In comparison to Jharkhand, rains will be less this time.
It is anticipated that light rain with one or two moderate spells is possible. The eastern end of the axis of Monsoon trough is expected to oscillate north and south, therefore, intensity of rain will also vary from time to time.
As on July 31, Bihar is rain deficit by 9 percent and Jharkhand is rain surplus by 15 percent. With the upcoming rains over Bihar, it is expected that the rain deficiency would reduce over Bihar.
