Monsoon rains to pick up pace in Northeast India by June 9

Southwest Monsoon made onset over Northeast India on June 1. Prior to this, pre-Monsoon showers continued over almost the entire seven sisters, with pleasant weather conditions and cloud cover.

The Monsoon showers have intensified over the states of Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura in the last two days. Good rains were observed during the past 24 hours over some parts of the mentioned regions.

In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Wednesday, North Lakhimpur recorded 78 mm of rains, followed By Jorhat wherein 71 mm of showers were witnessed. Other areas that observed rains, Imphal 31 mm, Kohima 28 mm, Dibrugarh 25 mm, Pasighat 9 mm, Cherrapunji 8 mm And Lengpui 3 mm.

However, these Monsoon showers subsided the western parts of Assam, wherein only rains of light intensity have been witnessed.

A cyclonic circulation can be seen over North Central Bay Of Bengal. This weather system is most expected to strengthen into a low pressure area by tomorrow.

Thus, the rains will gradually pick up pace over the northeastern states and June 9 onward, we can expect moderate to heavy shower over many parts of the region, particularly Mizoram and Tripura. The weather activity would continue for the next two to three days.
