As of August 23, the entire state of Uttar Pradesh has received rains which have ended at a deficiency of -13%. These rains continue to remain in the normal range. Comparably division-wise, East and West Uttar Pradesh remained rain deficient by 15% and 10%, respectively.

Considering the weather conditions of the state since the beginning of Monsoon season this year, Uttar Pradesh remained highly rain deficit during June, particularly East Uttar Pradesh. Whereas, few good spells were witnessed by the state that aided in covering the rain deficiency to some extent during July, particularly end of the week. Similar was the case in the month of August.

On account of the cyclonic circulation over Northeast Uttar Pradesh and adjoining areas and the central portion of the axis of Monsoon trough that is running via Pilibhit, Bahraich, and Gorakhpur, parts of the state have observed fairly widespread rain and thundershowers during the past 24 hours. In fact, scattered heavy showers also lashed parts of Uttar Pradesh such as Jhansi recorded 141 mm, Bareilly 66 mmm, Kanpur 49 mm and Lucknow 41 mm.

Momentarily, there is a cyclonic circulation in North Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal and Odisha. This weather system is likely to become more marked and move inland. So, the latter along with the former weather features together would cause fairly widespread rain and thundershowers accompanying scattered heavy falls over the state during the next three days. In fact, we are expecting few very heavy spells along the foothills of Uttar Pradesh as well.

At this time frame, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Kanpur, Lucknow, Allahabad, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, Bareilly and Bahraich would be few districts of Uttar Pradesh that would be witnessing Monsoon showers.
