Monsoon rains to persist in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Visakhapatnam for next 2 days

During the past 24 hours, light to moderate rains with one or two heavy spells were witnessed over Odisha and Andhra Pradesh including places like Vijayawada that reported rains to the tune of 54 mm, Koraput 41 mm, Jharsuguda 27 mm, Dhenkanal 26 mm, Machilipatnam 24 mm, Bhabanipatna 14 mm, Kakinada 9 mm, Angul 6 mm, Keonjhargarh 5 mm and Ongole 5 mm.

Now, a cyclonic circulation is seen over North Coastal Odisha and neighboring area. In addition, the axis of Monsoon trough is passing through Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal.

As a result, we can expect light to moderate rains with one or two heavy spells over many parts of Odisha. Similar rain activity is also likely along the coastline of Andhra Pradesh during the next 24 hours.

Weatherman at Skymet Weather are of the view that these on and off showers would continue over Odisha as well as North Coastal Andhra Pradesh for at least the next two to three days. At this time, the remaining area of Andhra Pradesh would only see subdued activity.

Places like Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri, Sambalpur, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Tuni and Kakinada would observe these intermittent good showers.

Subsequently, the rain activity is anticipated to lessen over both Odisha and Andhra Pradesh and another spell can be expected over the former state around July 18 or 19. Monsoon is most likely to remain subdued over Andhra Pradesh during this period.

As on July 12, Coastal Andhra Pradesh has witnessed excess rains by 20%, while Odisha and Rayalaseema remained rain deficient by 26% and 7%, respectively.
