Uttarakhand floods had been wreaking havoc over the state for quite some time. So much so that the at least a dozen people were killed due to rain related incidents. Several places had reported landslides leading to blockage of more than 300 roads in the entire state.
However, fortunately, the last 48 hours have been good. So much so that weather conditions have remained dry over Uttarakhand since last two days. During the last 24 hours, the state of Uttarakhand has received 95 percent less rains than its daily normal.
Even though rains have reduced from Uttarakhand, the region continues to be in the normal rainfall range. As on July 20, Uttarakhand is observing a rainfall surplus of a good 19 percent.
However, good rains are about to make a comeback over the state of Uttarakhand. Now, eastern districts of Uttarakhand will begin to receive light to moderate rain with heavy falls at a few places from today itself.
Areas including Almora, Chamoli, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, Nainital and Champawat will be the first ones to receive rains. Thereafter, rainfall will spread over other parts as well. Light to moderate Monsoon rains are expected to continue until July 23.
Thereafter, rain intensity will subside for the next 24 to 36 hours between July 24 and 25. However, heavy to very heavy rain will once again commence over Uttarakhand from July 26. In fact, around July 28, intensity of rains will further increase.
Thus, residents of Uttarakhand may witness more landslides and flash floods during that period and should be alert.
